SGP secures Worcester Library
SGP Property & Facilities Management and Galliford Try Investments have been announced as preferred bidder for the Worcester Library and History Centre for Worcestershire County Council in partnership with the University of Worcester. The successful private finance initiative bid team led by Galliford Try Investments will create and manage the first fully integrated public and university library in the UK. The scheme will also include the county archives and records office, history centre, archaeology service and multi-agency customer service centre. The building is set to become one of the most sustainable buildings with a 50 per cent reduction in carbon emissions and will have a BREEAM rating of “Excellent.” Construction on site is expected to begin in October 2009 and completion is expected by January 2012. During the two year process to secure the project, the SGP team has worked closely with the consortium and the client to both refine the design of the building to ensure the most efficient maintenance regime as well as scoping the FM service delivery model in line with the different stakeholder requirements. ‘We are delighted to be part of the winning consortium for this landmark project,’ said Kevin Elliott, MD of SGP Ltd. ‘This will be an exciting and dynamic new building that will be host to a varied set of local services and members of the public. We are looking forward to the challenge of providing an excellent FM solution that suits their needs and those that will maintain the highest standards of environmental management.’
